J&K men win NZ Handball title | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, March 17: The J&K men team won the 16th edition of the North Zone Handball Championship outplaying Chandigarh in the closely contested final 31-30 played at Mini Stadium Parade, here today. Neeraj Kumar and Ashish remained top scorers from hosts J&K with 11 and 10 points in their respective accounts. Earlier, in hardliner, Delhi defeated Punjab 26-17 to finish third in this six-team North Zone contest. Meanwhile, the women’s championship trophy went to Delhi on the basis of points earned in the league competition. In the last league tie played this morning, Delhi defeated title holders, Haryana in a one-sided contest 15-06. Only four teams turned up in women’ section so the winner decided on basis of points earned in league round. Punjab remained third while hosts J&K women finished fourth. In the final and prize distribution function, Minister for Sports, R S Chib was chief guest, who gave away winners and runners-up trophies as also other individual prizes. Inspector General of J&K Police, Dilbag Singh was guest of honour. Minister, speaking to the participating teams, congratulated the winners J&K and complimented other teams for their fighting spirit. The competition was organised by J&K Handball Association under the banner of Handball Federation of India and sponsored by J&K State Sports Council.
