Separatists oppose autonomy recommendations | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, March 18: The separatist camp has strongly opposed the recommendations of New Delhi’s nominated interlocutors on Jammu Kashmir on restoration of autonomy to the state. Former chairman of the moderate Hurriyat amalgam, Professor Abdul Ghani Bhat ruled out restoration of autonomy as a solution to the Kashmir dispute. “When the state enjoyed autonomy, the Kashmir issue was alive. The issue needs a permanent settlement”, he said. He said restoration of autonomy cannot end violence and uncertainty. Bhat said the on-going struggle was not meant for restoration of autonomy. Bhat justified his amalgam’s decision to ignore the invitation of the interlocutors for talks by stating that the interlocutors were not a decision making body. "We want to hold parleys with people who can take decisions and not with those who can simply recommend”, he said.
