| BJP, PP, JSM unite once again on Mubarak Mandi Heritage complex | | Uproar in House over leasing out complex for construction of hotel instruction of a five star hotel in the Complex. | | Early Times Report
Jammu, March 18
It was during the Zero hour, Balwant Singh Mankotia of Panthers Party raised the issue in a vehement manner and shouted they would allow the government to lease out the historical complex in Jammu for commercial purpose to private parties. “ We will not allow selling out or leasing out complex which is the rich heritage of Dogras ….it is the identity of Dogras in Jammu….we won’t allow any hotel to be built within the complex just because government wants that in the name of tourism promotion”, Mankotia shouted. Soon he was joined by the members of his party Harsh Dev Singh and Yahspal Kundal besides BJP members and JSM MLA who too supported the clamour of PP over the issue.

The uproar and continuous shouting by the members led to complete ruckus and pandemonium in the House. While they shouted slogans , the agitating members also demanded made incharge of the Society. “ The post has to be by virtue of some designation which he doesnot hold at present….”, he contended.
"A member taking care of renovation of the heritage complex is neither a MLA nor MLC but crores has immediate reply of the government . What further added to clamour was the mention of the Society by NasirAslam Wani MOS tourism who said it was set up to conserve the heritage complex. Both Mankotia of PP and Ashok Khajuria of BJP without naming anyone strongly protested to what they alleged a ‘non entity’ at the helm of affairs of the Society and crores of rupees were at his disposal . “He is neither MLA …nor MLC ….in what capacity he is running the Society now/………? They questioned inside the House. Even as Wani tried to pacify the members saying they could speak on the function but attacking some one in person was not in good taste, the members continued to create uproar in the House . All the members later staged walkout from the House. Ashok Kajuria while taking to some media persons outside the House critcised and questioned the locus standi of Gulchain Singh Charak who has been been kept at his disposal," MLA Balwant Singh Mankotia said.
He said Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Tourism Minister Nawang Rigzin Jora are the chairman and the vice-chairman of the trust but it was unfortunate that a man looking after the renovation of the complex held no position in the government.

Later addressing a press meet outside the Assembly, JKNPP working chairman and MLA Harsh Dev Singh, flanked by Mankotia and Yashpal Kundal said, "It is our heritage and only after a hue and cry over its renovation, the Government of India sanctioned the funds." "How the funds announced by the Government, went to the pocket of a private NGO," Singh said, adding that the tender was advertised in a newspaper in which the NGO has not only asked for converting the heritage property into a five-star hotel but also giving the structures adjoining to it on lease.
