Fresh snowfall in Gulmarg, upper reaches, cold revisits Kashmir | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Mar 19 : Fresh snowfall in world famous ski resort of Gulmarg and other upper reaches in the Kashmir Valley has resulted in severe cold, forcing people to again wear woollen and warm clothes. After above normal temperature in the Kashmir Valley during the night, people woke up to a cold morning following fresh snowfall on upper reaches and rains in plains, including summer capital, Srinagar. A Met department spokesman said rain or snow would occur at most places in the Kashmir division during the next 24 hours. It was heavily snowing since early this morning, a hotel owner told UNI over phone from Gulmarg. Fresh snowfall has added to the attraction of the Gulmarg, where hundreds of tourists are visiting daily, he said the skiers were out on slopes despite minus 1.6 degree minimum temperature this morning. Fresh snowfall was good as it will extend the skiing period, he said and expected a good number of tourists in the coming days as the temperature in south Indian state had already started rising. However, at Pahalgam, it was raining, a tourist official said over phone. He said the upper reaches, including holy Amarnath cave shrine and its periphery had fresh snowfall since last night. Reports of snowfall were also received from Sheshnag, Panjterni, Mahaguns and Pisso top. The upper reaches in north Kashmir, including the areas near the Line of Control (LoC), which remained cut off since December last year, had also experienced fresh snowfall since early this morning. The plains had moderate to heavy rains since last night, resulting in considerable cold, forcing people to wear woolen and warm cloths again. Highest 17.6 mm rainfall was recorded at Kokernag followed by Srinagar 9.2 mm rainfall till 0800 hrs, disrupting normal life.
