`For solace to distressed children dial 1098’
Srinagar gets CHILDLINE

Srinagar, Mar 19 : The Divisional Commissioner Kashmir today launched a 24x7 CHILDLINE in Srinagar to address the problems of children in distress. The service has been launched in collaboration with HELP Foundation.
The service is already available to the children of Jammu. Any child or concerned adult can dial 1098 to access this service. CHILDLINE is also an essential component under the newly launched Integrated Child Protection Scheme of the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India.
The ‘CHILDLINE; service is anchored by ‘CHILDLINE’ India Foundation (CIF) which is a Nodal organization appointed by Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD), Government of India for the initiation and monitoring of CHILDLINE services across India.. Currently operational in 83 cities of India spread across 25 states with a vision to reach out to every child in distress in each city/district of India it aims to be operational in all 596 districts of India by 2015.
Nighat Shafi, the chairperson of HELP Foundation in her welcome address stressed on child issues in the state. “I appeal to the concern institutions for urgent need of putting Juvénile Justice Act in place which should be par from JJ ACT 2003 present in the rest of the country.”
The Divisional commissioner speaking on the occasion said that the concern government is serious to implement JJ Act and establish Juvenile homes in the valley and will ensure full cooperation for the said service.
This event was organized by HELP Foundation in collaboration with J&K Bank and co-sponsored by Jehlum Plastic Industries.
Among the dignitaries present in the function included J&K Bank President Tafazul Hussain , Khursheed Pandit, Sajjad Bazzaz, Shujad Bukhari, Rao Farman Ali, Asif Bashir Chapoo (Jehlum Plastics), Professor Untoo, Abdur Rashid, Ashia Saleem and.Parveena Ahangar.
