| Residents protest against PWD Rajouri, block traffic | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT

The residents of villager Kaller in Thanamandi block of the district today staged a protest
demonstration against the rampant corruption in Public Works Department Rajouri . Due to the hours long sit in staged by the villagers near SORA bridge , the traffic movement between Thanamandi –Shadra Sharief and Rajouri headquarters remained disrupted .
Sources said , large number of local people belonging to Kaller village came on streets on Saturday morning and staged hours long dharna near Sora bridge in Thanamandi block . The villagers were protesting against the PWD authorities Rajouri alleging that the
officer of the department have diverted the road project sanctioned for their village to an other locality with corruption intention. They threatened that if the road was not constructed as per the project sanctioned and requirement of the people , they will not allow any official to work in the entire area .
Giving details, sources said , an eight km long stretch of link road was sanctioned by government to connect the Kaller village with the rest of the district . However, some officials of the department deviated from the real survey and diverted the project towards an other adjoining village which has already road facility. Sources said , this all has been done to pave the way for compensation to those from whom the officials have received huge amount as bribe . It is pertinent to mention here that , in some areas of Rajouri ,
district , the motorable roads have not been constructed with the aim to provide connectivity to the far flung areas , but only to pave the way for land compensation to the parties who se land comes under alignment during the construction process . Due to the handsome amount being paid by PMGSY and PWD departments , most of the influential people managed the survey of the roads from their non agricultural and
waste lands . The officials of the department did it after getting huge amount from the interested parties .Keeping in mind this business , the officials of the department ignored the main objective
of the roads and majority population have been ignored.
