Fostering Learning- Role of Parents & Teachers | | Ms. Yashu Jain Lecturer in Education (J.k College of Education) | 3/19/2011 10:31:44 PM |
| The expansion of the horizons of knowledge is taking place at a rapid pace allover the world. Learners demand different methods of learning. Most learners are unaware of their preferred learning styles in the same way that we are unaware of our blood pressure readings. The attention at present is concentrated on remedial education indicates that we are still far from having complete knowledge of the optimum conditions of learning. Under many circumstances otherwise, it would not be necessary to devote so much energy to elaborate program of rendering what has been done before. Now the question arises how to create a climate for learning? Learning is a process of progressive behavior adaptation. Schools must begin to address the fact that' more learning can take place in an environment in which everyone is anonymous. It is time to revolutionize schools with this same sense of belonging, caring and sharing with one another. The school years constitute an important period of growth for the pupils. Or we can say that the organization of the school represent an important factor in the production of optimum learning. A school condition that affects learning is the machinery employed for getting parental cooperation with the school. This situation tends to set the parents against the teachers. With the child At the middleman doing the manipulation. Other children, on the contrary, are treated with undue harshness at home. In this case the task of the school, in order that more learning may take place, is to build up morale and restore self-confidence. One of the most important attitudes for effective learning is a justified feeling of self-confidence. Therefore the schools should emphasize success experiences for the young learners and guidance for each pupil. Now comes the role of teachers as well as parents to enhance the learning capacities of a child. It should be understood by both parents and teachers that each pupil makes progress at his own pace and they should appreciate the individual differences. This is an acknowledged fact teachers have always played a pivotal role in the enlighten of human societies through the process of education and contributed to their development. The personality of the teacher is a vital condition affecting learning. Learning is largely a matter of motivation and morale and these can be seriously impaired in the pupils by the personality of the teacher. As a parent, one of your primary concerns should be to provide experiences that will contribute to the pupil's growth. One of the major functions of both should be to establish conditions that facilitate and stimulate the achievements of goals and to reduce irrelevant and noxious stimuli that hinder learning. Parents as well as teachers must not uphold standards that are beyond the possibility of attainment by the pupils, nor should they compare the performance of one pupil with that of another. They can influence motivating conditions by providing goals that will meet the social needs of their pupils. The egocentric nature of childhood makes it necessary that child learn many, if not the greater part of the things that makeup what we call' Social adjustment'. The emotional reinforcement of behavior, viewed purely from the external side is rather easily understood. But it is given far too little attention by both parents and teachers. It was found that older children respond more to praise than to blame. Girls were less responsive to both praise and blame than boys are. Parents and teachers must be judicious and tactful in using praise and censure. The activities of pupils and teachers parallel one another but are not identical. The pupil learns. The teachers set the stage for learning. Learning is enhanced if there is proper understanding of the child. So, parents and teachers should perform many functions in the learning process, sometimes motivating, other time reinforcing, providing opportunities for practice, organizing activities, instructing and guiding pupils. Parents are responsible as authentic partners in identifying needs, and it should be fundamental to involve parents in• a meaningful way. They should be strongly encouraged to throw light on findings while screening the psychological functioning of the learner. Both parents and teachers should create an atmosphere a flexible environment where all students - timid, shy, intelligent or slow find space to grow. Simple ways should be devised to make the Child's journey joyful and memorable. "Remember, it's the journey that matter, not the end." We all should focus on improving capabilities through discussion, building knowledge and transferring learning and proper feedback should also be provided to the child so as to improve their learning atmosphere. According to my nation: "AN AFFECTIONATE MOTHER AND A COMPASSIONATE TEACHER MAKES A SUCESSFUL LEARNER"
