JAMMU, Mar 19: CPI (M) legislator Mohammed Yousuf Tarigami has pitched for reorganizing the department of Archives, Archaeology and Museums to ensure preservation of state’s rich and varied panorama of cultural treasure.
Participating in the discussion on grants of Tourism and Culture on Friday evening, he stressed the need to adopt modern scientific techniques to ensure safety and proper upkeep of State’s rare artifacts, magnificent manuscripts and other historical records. The conservation of these records has to be preserved for the posterity and future generations, he said.
Suggesting micro filming of this vital record, he said the step will serve twin objectives of dispensing with space problem and ensuring continuity in the records so vital for preserving history. Tarigami called for developing vested interest in cultivating peace cutting across party lines, terming it pre requisite for promotion of tourism industry. He said State is globally favoured tourism destination due to its unique and unparalleled scenic spots and cultural mosaic across all the regions and areas.
Promotion of this industry generates multitude of economic activities with multiplier effect on employment generation, he said, adding the same is required to spur economic growth. Legislator also sought adequate funding to Cultural Academy for payment to artists, writers and musicians, whom he described as culture scientists. Their encouragement is akin to investment in identity preservation and culture development, he said.
