| Militant, cop killed in Kashmir encounter | | | Srinagar, Mar 19 : A militant and a policeman were killed in an encounter in Kashmir valley on Saturday, police said.
Acting on specific information about the presence of militants in village Doondupora-Keller, Shopian police and security forces early Saturday laid a siege around the area, leading to an encounter.
"One militant identified as Abdul Rashid Awan, son of Mohammad Hussian, resident of Rakh-e-Pehlipora, Keller of Hizbul-Mujahideen outfit, was killed in the encounter," police said.
One policeman identified as Ghulab Singh, a Head-Constable, also died in the gunbattle
The police also claimed recovery of arms and ammunition from the site of the encounter.
Search operation was going on at the encounter site when the last reports came in.
