Jammu, Mar 19: Everything ranging from politics to environment has been discussed in the on-going session of the Legislative Assembly. However, the legislators especially from the ruling coalition have failed to discuss the use of new logo by the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC).
The LAHDC has also abandoned use of the state flag. Instead the `civic body’ has been using the Tricolor. Usually, anywhere in the state, the Tricolor and the state flag are hurled atop government buildings and vehicles. The combination is also used at official functions.
On February 27, the Chief Minister responded to the development by stating that LAHDC was a municipality and every municipality had a right to have its own logo. He further said that his government was watching the developments. “A final decision shall betaken after ascertaining the facts”, he assured as opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) described the development as unfortunate. “It is an act to dilute the special status of the state”, Mahbooba Mufti said while expressing determination to fight such moves vehemently. However, like Oamr Abdullah, Mahbooba too seems to have forgotten the issue.
Surprisingly both National Conference and the PDP have been making lot of noise to `protect’ what they call the special status of Jammu Kashmir state. But as LAHDC dealt a severe blow to their campaign, they have yet to decide what action needs to be taken.
Political circles, however, do not agree with the Chief Minister. According to them municipalities do not take political decisions. Pertinent to mention, the municipalities of Srinagar and Jammu are even scared of poisoning the stray dogs.
The LAHDC has been striving for a union territory status. Last month there was talk of introducing a resolution in the Parliament for achieving the goal. The fight, political circles believe, may take time but for the time being LAHDC has initiated the process of “trifurcation of the state.”
