| ‘Celebrating Nov 25 as Shahidi Diwas’ | | All POJK Displaced Persons Front constituted | |
JAMMU NOV-13 THE newly constituted All POJK Displaced Persons Front, an umbrella of several organizations, has decided to celebrate November 25 as Shahidi Diwas and take out a protest rally which will culminate at Shahidi Samarak in front of Government Medical College here. The decision to this effect was taken at a joint meeting of various organizations and prominent persons of the displaced community of Pakistan occupied part of Jammu and Kashmir at Press Clubs here today. Leaders of Sharnarthi Action Committee, Kisan Mazdoor Refugees Dal, Muzzarffarabd Displaced Persons Committee, Mirpur Displaced Persons Association, Chamb Displaced Persons and Kotli Refugees Committee attended the meeting, convened by Prof Virender Gupta President Jammu Mukti Morcha. The meeting threadbare discussed the problems of the displaced persons and decided to constitute an umbrella organization with the name of All POJK Displaced Persons Front and leaders of various organizations included in it as members of presidium of the organization. The meeting also decided to present a joint memorandum concerning the issues of 1947 displaced persons and those displaced in 1965 and 1971 from Chhamb would be submitted to the state Chief Minister and Prime Minister. It was disclosed at the meeting that displaced persons constitute about 15 to 20 lakh and there is an urgent need to assert their political identity, as they are the most sufferers. Though uprooted some 60 years back due to the Pakistani aggression, these hapless people are still unsettled. The meeting felt that the refugees should be made party in resolving the Kashmir issue, as they constitute an important component of the State’s population. The members unanimously expressed the view of reserving eight seats in the State legislature for the POJK displaced persons out of 24 seats reserved for PoK, a part of the Jammu and Kashmir State. Later the meeting constituted a presidium of the Front. The members of the Front include Capt R K Raina, Capt Yudhvir Singh, Jagdeep Singh Amla, Yash Pal Gupta, Dr Gurdeep Singh, Prof Virender Gupta and V K Tandon.
