3/21/2011 10:29:58 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Srinagar, Mar 21: Peoples Democratic Party has called for immediate restoration and allocation of funds for widening and development of Srinagar- Sumbal – Bandipora road which has become prone to the accidents these days. In a statement PDP Senior leader and MLA Bandipora, Nizamudin Bhat have urged the government to take the matter seriously for the convenience of the people and put an end to the danger of life on this road taking aside the political vendetta.
Nizamudin said that PDP had earlier reserved the funds for construction of culverts and other developments had been embezzled and even the patch work and widening on hilly areas have been totally neglected. This road has become controversial and the case registered under vigilance is still in court since last 20 years. Last years the government with its acknowledgement allocated two crore’s for its development and with these funds the macdemization work was done to five kilometers only, he added.
The government announced to hand over this road to Beacon but since then neither Beacon nor department of R&B have taken any responsibility of this road resulting in taking five hours to reach either Bandipora or Srinagar instead of only one hours distance.
Nizamudin further said that the work on Nalah Madumati and Arin have also been neglected deliberately causing flood situation causing danger to crop fields.
He demanded that NHPC and HCC should be claimed for appropriate compensation for development of the roads and the Nallahs having sole responsibility of construction of projects on these nallah’s.
If necessary steps for development had not been taking immediately and proper compensation claimed from the concerned agencies the people of the area will come on streets and even legal steps will be taken and all the responsibility will lie on government, Bhat Warned.
