EARLY TIMES REPORT
Rajouri, Mar 21: The death of a Congress leader, Maroof Khan from Rajouri evoked protests in the border district today. Maroof’s body was found in a forest at Thanamandi.
Conflicting reports about Maroof’s death have been received. “The young leader had gone hunting with a colleague and got killed in an accidental fire”, suggest reports.

However, his relatives reject this version as ridiculous. They see a conspiracy in the killing and have demanded a probe.

It is believed that one Serwer Khan, who lives in Maroof’s neighborhood, approached him Sunday afternoon. Soon the duo decided to go for hunting. to At about 5 Pm a gun fire was heard by the locals in Dera Ki Gali forests. The people ignored it as people hunt in the area. Both Maroof and Sarwer were having their mobile phones with them. But, instead of informing about the incident to the adjoining army post or using his phone to inform any
one about the incident , Sarwer Khan traveled 12 kms distance on foot and after two hours he reached at his home and told his family members that Maroof got killed in an accidental fire by him . On hearing this, the family members of Sarwer informed Thanamandi
police about the incident saying that Maroof got Killed in an accidental fire during hunting . The news spread like a wild fire and thousands of people marched towards the site of incident and about 9 PM, his body was found in a pool of blood.
According to eyewitnesses and doctors who conducted his postmortem, the fatal bullet was fired from a point blank range.

Additional SP Rajouri , Mohammad Shabir said that the protesting people were demanding probe of the matter . He said, “As the incident took place in the jurisdiction of Poonch Police and they are investigating it. He also confirmed that the person responsible for killing had been arrested and was being questioned.”
