| 8 hurt as "land encroachers" clash with police | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Mar 21: At least eight persons, including five policemen, were wounded after cops tried to chase away alleged land encroachers at Chhani Himmat here today.
Police sources said members of a particular community had encroached land of housing department at Chhani Himmat. When police parties reached the spot to vacate the land, resulting in injuries to five cops.
Police resorted to lathicharge as a result of which three alleged land encroachers sustained injuries."Earlier the land along the bypass road at Chhani Himmat was vacated
from them but they had again encroached upon it," the sources added. Sources said though the senior police officers tried to intervene and control the situation, the alleged land encroachers entered into a clash and started stoning police.
The injured were shifted to the GMC hospital for treatment. Police had registered a case in this connection.
