Sham assures adequate working space to NGOs

JAMMU, MARCH 22-Assuring adequate space and conducive working atmosphere to NGOs in the state, Minister for Health, Mr. Sham Lal Sharma today asked the voluntary organisations to serve the society with utmost zeal and missionary spirit.
The Minister was addressing 1-day workshop organised by the State Health Society (NRHM) J&K for Mother NGOs, Field NGOs, Service Providers and PPPs at Nagrota here today.
The objective of the workshop was to get feedback from the NGOs working for NRHM about their experiences and grievances, besides working out plans for better implementation of the flagship National Health Mission.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that the Government was making strenuous efforts to add new dimensions to the profile of NGOs in the State. In this regard, he emphasised the need for bringing in an attitudinal change in the minds and working of philanthropic organizations. He also urged upon the NGO fraternity to be more transparent, responsive and accountable to the responsibilities entrusted to them adding that this was vital for welfare and development of society. He assured complete support to these voluntary units which supplement the efforts of the Government in its endeavours to develop the state to new highs.
The Minister asked the NGO’s to engage professionals while working
in their respective fields to ensure effective implementation of the programmes launched by the Government. He also asked them to optimally utilize the experience gathered in this workshop while working in the field He hoped that the knowledge gained in the workshop will help the NGOs to further streamline their functioning.
Appreciating the State Health Society for organising this innovative programme, the Minister hoped that the valuable suggestions and problems highlighted during the workshop will help the department and the NGO’s to plug loopholes in their functioning.
