`Sikhs hurt over forceful removal of turbans at many international airports’ | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammau , March 22 In a joint statement, SAD(A), SAD (B), J&K Sikh Intellectual Circle and Sikh Student Federation today expressed serious concern over the recurring incidents of disrespect and harassment to the Sikhs at many international airports abroad. After deliberations, the heads of the organizations jointly said that incidents of forcefully removing the Turbans (a religious symbol of Sikhs) at various International Airports was causing grave disrespect to the Sikh religion. Citing an example of one such victim Gurbachan Singh, a resident of Rome, Italy, originally hailing from Talab Till, Jammu , whose turban was forcibly removed at Rome Airport. The unfortunate and avoidable incident has badly hurt the Sikh sentiments. Jathedar Shri Akal Takhat Sahib and SGPC Amritsar have urged to take up the matter with Prime Minister of India as also Govts. of the concerned countries for safeguarding the religious honour and respect of the Sikh community. They disclosed that in various other countries also Sikhs have been subjected to such humiliation which include Coach Jiv Milkha Singh in Milan, Italy, Hardeep Singh Puri, Head, United Security Council in USA and many others also. Among others who attended the press conference included S. J.S. Mangal, S. Mohinder Singh, Bhai Gurdev Singh, S. Narinder Singh Khalsa, S. Balbir Singh, S. Manmohan Singh Khalsa, S. Harmohinder Singh, S.Rajit Singh, S.suchwant Singh and senior leaders such as S.Suchet Singh, S. Santokh Singh Gujral, S. Jagjeet Singh Jagga, etc. The victim Gurbachan Singh was also present who narrated the incident to the press and electronic media, in person.
