Akhoon introduces amendment Bill to strengthen Motor Vehicle Act | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, MAR 23- Minister for Transport, HakQamar Ali Akhoon introduce a Bill to amend the Motor Vehicles Act, 1986 (Central Act No. 59 of 1988) in its application to State of Jammu and Kashmir (L.A. Bill No. 5 of 2011) in the Legislative Assembly today. Explaining the objects of the Bill, the Minister said plying of passenger, commercial and other vehicles in the State is regulated by the provisions of Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 which is a Central act applicable to the state of Jammu and Kashmir. The State being hilly is prone to accidents. The primary cause for which is rash and negligent driving, overloading, plying of vehicles without fitness certificates etc. The amendments in the act are proposed to make the penalty provisions more stringent in order to deter the offenders.
