Outright win for Physical Education in cricket | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, March 23: Department of Physical Education today registered a big 10-wicket win over Department of Geology in the ongoing inter-department cricket tournament of University of Jammu (JU) on the campus grounds, here. Batting first after winning the toss, Geology lost all their wickets for 86 runs in 17.1 overs of the 20 overs game. In reply, Physical Education chased the total without losing any wicket that too in just eight overs. Ashwani was main scorer with 33 runs while no other batsman could touch the double figure mark. Sachin clinched three wickets from Physical Education while Shajad and Lovjeet shared two each. Later, Physical Education attained the goal making 89 runs in mere eight overs with all 10 wickets intact. Sunil Sharma and Sunil Kumar remained unbeaten with 42 and 33 runs in their respective accounts. Meanwhile, in another match of the day, Kathua Campus registered a narrow one-wicket win over Department of Computer Sciences (MCA). Earlier, MCA set a target of 107 runs losing all their wickets in 17.4 overs, which, in reply, Kathua Campus chased in 19.4 overs for the loss of nine wickets. Today’s matches were officiated by Rajeev Sharma, Raj Kumar and Vijay Dogra. Manu Khajuria and Sat Pal were scorers.
CHESS: Economics wins title
Department of Economics clinched the men’s inter-department chess title outplaying Department of Law 2-0. In the final, played today, Mohinder Sharma beat Abdul Salam and later Amarjit Singh defeated Rajan of Department of Law. Anil Sharma officiated the matches.
