SC may be fallible but its decision is final, says CJI
11/14/2006 11:55:25 PM

New Delhi, Nov 14
In the midst of a raging debate over the powers of various organs of the Constitution, Chief Justice of India (CJI) YK Sabharwal said on Tuesday that no institution was infallible and the Supreme Court need not always be correct but what it said was final.
"The Supreme Court decision is final not necessarily because it is right. Every human being, every institution has limitations. No institution is infallible. But since we are final, we are called Supreme Court," the CJI said in reply to a question from a child at a function on the National Child Rights Week at SC premises.

This was the first time such a function was organised in the apex court on the occasion of Children's Day.

The CJI advocated the necessity of concerted steps for the upholding children's rights.
