| Kasuri's Delhi visit for talks with separatists, too | | PoK's JKNLF embarrasses Pak Foreign Minister | |
B L KAK NEW DELHI, NOV. 14 Islamabad has just dashed off a message to Muzaffarabad, divulging the Foreign Minister, Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri's plan to hold talks later this month with the 'Kashmiri leadership' to discuss possible mechanisms for resolving the Kashmir issue with India. Signifcantly, by the time it was officially anounced in Islamabad that a high-level meeting to be led by Kasuri will be held on November 21, the All Parties National Alliance (APNA) threatened to boycott the Kashmir conference. The APNA is an umbrella of 'nationalist' parties in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK). Invitation letters have already been sent to the PoK President Raja Zulqarnain, Prime Minister, Attique Ahmad Khan, and various political parties. While PoK's All Parties National Alliance announced that it would stage a protest demonstration in front of the Pakistan Foreign Office on the day of the meeting, Jammu and Kashmir National Liberation Front (JKNLF) secretary general, Arif Shahid, told reporters that the group would not participate in any conference designed to discuss the division of Kashmir, which was anathema to the people of Kashmir. Shahid was also reported to have pronounced that the" indigenous struggle" would continue until the "complete independence" of Jammu and Kashmir from India was secured. He also stressed that the Kashmiri people would not accept any secret deals negotiated between Islamabad and New Delhi on the issues of Siachen, Wular Barrage or Sir Creek. Be that as it may, equally significant message from Islamabad relates to Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri's plan to hold talks with some Kashmiri separatist leaders during his forthcoming visit to Delhi. These leaders, among others, include senior representatives of the two factions of the Srinagar-based Hurriyat Conferfence, besides Shabir Shah and Mohammed Yasin Malik. Significantly, a section of Kashmiri separatist leaders seem keen on knowing Islamabad's atitude towards the stalled dialogue process between New Delhi and the Hurriyat leaders. No wonder, this issue will be raised during the Pak Foreign Minister's upcoming talks with some Kashmiri leaders in the Indian capital. |
