YC delegation meets Lohia, stresses for better traffic management

JAMMU, March 24: A delegation of Youth Congress activists led by R. S. Pathania, senior Vice-President, J & K P.Y.C., called on Hemant Lohia, IPS, I. G. Traffic Jammu with a view to suggest measures and modes regarding regulation of traffic in Jammu city as well as suburbs.
The delegation called for a comprehensive ‘Traffic Policy’ as to what is the maximum limit of vehicles which could be allowed to be purchased and plied on roads with parking and driving slots for each one of them. They also called for a policy on curbing road encroachments, unnecessary jams, proper display of signals and signboards, ear-marking of pedestrian crossings, bus and matador stops, notifying of matador routes.
Further an Urban Management Authority governing has to be brought in place seeking to develop a close liaison and coordination between PWD, BSNL, P.D.D., J.M.C. and rather thirty-six departments in total regarding their working, repair and upgradation works on and aside the roads in Jammu.
The delegation also called for e-monitoring of offending vehicles and like metro cities, sending challans to the residential addresses of defaulting drivers is a better option. The Youth Congress delegation sought stern action against corrupt traffic officials and side-by-side encouraging honest officials.
Whereas Lohia gave a patient hearing to the visiting Youth Congress delegation and assured of keeping in mind the suggestions made by Youth Congress.
He further said that innovations regarding management of traffic through technological means have been drafted and compiled by the Traffic Police in its ‘Vision Document’ and presented to the higher-ups in the state government.
Prominent among those formed part of the delegation included Amit Manhas, Varun Magotra, Ajay Singh Jamwal, Shashi Bhushan, Vikram Bhandari, Charanjeet Singh, Varundev Singh Bunny, Azhar Rajput, Pawan Singh, and others.
