Rly board employee cleared of charges after 18 yrs | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 24: The stenographer/confidential assistant to chairman of railway recruitment board (RRB), Jammu, was today acquitted of the corruption charges by special judge anti-corruption A K Koul after 18 years of trial. He was cleared of the charges by the court as CBI failed to prove its case.According to the CBI case, Ferozpur DRM had in 1992 sent an indent to RRB chairman for the selection of 21 candidates as ticket collectors. Against this indent, RRB selected 18 candidates and prepared their panel on July 24, 1992. It was alleged that stenographer/confidential assistant Romesh Kumar in connivance with others instead of delivering the original panel of selected candidates, submitted two fake panels, one of 28 candidates and the other of three candidates with a motive to facilitate the appointment of 13 bogus candidates who were not selected by RRB. A challan was later presented in CJM's court against only Romesh Kumar which was dismissed by the court because CBI had not added prevention of corruption act to the case. Before acquitting Romesh of charges levelled against him 18 years ago, the judge also referred to various Supreme Court judgements.
