BJP MLAs move HC for not allowing them to hoist flag at Lal Chowk | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 24: BJP MLAs today moved the high court for not allowing them to go to Srinagar on January 25 to hoist the national flag at Lal Chowk there on Republic Day. The petition was filed by BJP legislative party leader in the House, Chaman Lal Gupta and seven other MLAs.In the petition, it was submitted that on January 25 last, all MLAs reached for security check and boarding at the Jammu airport at about 10.30 am as they were to leave for Srinagar to hoist the national flag at Lal Chowk on Republic Day.They were to board the GO Airways flight scheduled to take off at about 12.05 pm. Though they had confirmed air tickets, they were stopped at the main gate and not allowed to enter the airport.They said they were stopped by SP (south), tehsildar Bishnah and DSP Mohan Lal Kaith and then dumped in police vehicles which took them to PWD guest house at Gandhi Nagar. They were freed and asked to go homes by police at about 5.30 pm the same day.The petitioners sought direction to chief secretary and home commissioner to hold an inquiry into the incident and also find out on whose directions/orders, they were detained and restrained from going to Srinagar. It was also prayed for issuance of direction to the respondents to compensate the petitioners for flagrant abuse and infringement of their fundamental rights guaranteed under Article 21 and 19 of Constitution of India. They also sought direction for registration of case under the relevant RPC provisions for the commission of offence of their abduction and wrongful confinement.
