Govt pipes seized from Bari Brahmana factory | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Mar 24: Busting a nexus between scrap dealers and government officials, police today seized government pipes from a factory at Bari Brahmana near here. SSP, Samba, Israr Khan said acting on a tip-off, police raided M/s Jamuna Alloys at Bari Brahmana and recovered from there 22 pipes, each measuring 20'x8", of a government department. The pipes were seized and factory manager Kirpal Singh of Uttar Pradesh was arrested, he informed. The SSP said factory owner Mahavir Singh Rana was absconding and a hunt was on to nab him. A case under sections 279, 409 and 411 was registered in this connection at the Bari Brahmana police station. During investigation, police came to know that the pipes of Jindal brand had been purchased by the factory management from scrap dealer Lokesh of Kaluchak, who had procured them from Bhatia, another scrap dealer of Udhampur. Bhatia had got the pipes from Doda-based scrap dealer Yasir, who had bought them from some government officials. Meanwhile, 17 vehicles loaded with iron scrap were seized by police at Bari Brahmana. A case, in this connection, was registered under section 550 of CrPC and sections 409, 411 and 414 of RPC at Bari Brahmana police station. The scrap was brought from Srinagar, Sopore, Reasi, Doda, Udhampur and Jammu. Meant for SICOP, the consignments were to be unloaded at Bari Brahmana industrial estate. There was no mention of the actual buyer to whom the consignment was to be delivered. The SSP said this was a gross violation of government orders whereby it was mandatory for SICOP to first unload the iron scrap at its godowns and then reload it after charging commission and issuing a challan for its destination. This way, a loss to the state exchequer was being caused, he added. |
