Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 24: The Jammu Kashmir incharge for Congress and a working committee member, Mohan Prakash of the party has accused former Chief Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad of weakening Congress in the state.
Inside sources said that Mohan Prakash and the AICC General Secretary, Abdul Manan, who had been slightly roughed up by the dissidents in Srinagar on March 21, have conveyed to the Party high command the exact details of the incident. These central Congress leaders had been told that Azad had camped in Srinagar till the early hours of morning of March 21 and before Mohan Prakash landed in the state's summer capital the union Minister had returned to New Delhi after galvanizing his supporters for launching an open campaign against Saif-ud-Din Soz.
Eyewitnesses said that the Congress dissidents, led by Ali Mohammad Bhat (MLC) and Ghulam Hassan Shah lost their cool when Mohan Prakash told them in clear terms that Soz will continue to lead the Congress in Jammu and Kashmir. In his candid expression Mohan Prakash had told the dissidents that Azad, who is holding an important portfolio in the union cabinet had no time to devote for the organization in Jammu and Kashmir.
Party sources said that Mohan Prakash and Abdul Manan had been impressed by the party show in which two of three MLA|s from the valley had joined. On the basis of this show Mohan Prakash has conveyed to the party high command that if the dissidents were not tamed the state unit of the Congress could suffer erosion.
Prakash is said to have also conveyed to the high command that except for the small group of dissidents no other congress leader or workers, including large number of congress supporters who had come to interact with him, had supported the demand for the ouster of Soz.
Reports said that Prakash has been impressed by Soz's performance on keeping the Congress flag flying in a difficult political environment in the Kashmir valley.
