Scene created at Gandhinagar after police "humiliate" martyred DSP's wife | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 24: A scene was today created at Gole Market, Gandhi Nagar, after the widow of DSP Varinder Jaipuria, who was killed few years back in an encounter with militants, was allegedly humiliated by police in full public view. The DSP's widow Shabnam Jaipuria, who lives in police GO quarters at Gulshan Ground here, is an information department employee. After her alleged humiliation at the hands of cops, the woman was
seen weeping inconsolably. This drew the attention of the passersby,
who joined her and protested against the alleged police
high-handedness. The trouble started after SI Darshan Singh stopped her son Shivalik,
who was driving an Enfield motorcycle, during routine checking of
vehicles at Gole Market. The SI asked him to show the mobike's registration papers. As he did
not carry papers with him, he asked the police officer to let him go
as he was the son of martyred DSP Varinder Jaipuria. When the SI threatened him to seize his mobike if he did not produce
papers, he called up his mother who reached there soon from the
nearby police GO quarters at Gulshan Ground. The woman later told reporters, who had reached the spot, that
police humiliated her when she introduced herself to them and
requested to release her son's mobike. While speaking to reporters, she wept desolately. Even Gandhi Nagar
police station SHO Rafiq Manhas failed to defuse the situation and
pacify the women. When contacted, police alleged that the woman had clashed with the
SI and torn his uniform. Though Shabnam later left the spot, she was booked by police under
sections 353, 341, 342, 347, 348, 423, 147 and 148 of RPC, the
sources added.
