| Pulwama MC president removed through no confidence motion | | | Srinagar, Nov 14 The president of Municipal Council Pulwama has been removed through a no confidence motion moved by one of the rival factions of PDP against him. Two rival factions of PDP, one led by former minister Sonaullah Dar, and the other headed by MoS Works Mohd Khalil Bandh, according to reports reaching here, were engaged in a controversy for a very long time. The former President of Municipal Council Bashir Ahmed Dar is the son of former minister and senior PDP leader Sonaullah Dar and faced a lot of resistance from MoS Works Mohd Khalil Bandh in the implementation of developmental works during his tenure. However the rival faction led by Mohd Khalil Bandh alleges that basher Ahmed Dar misappropriated public funds in executing various developmental works in Pulwama township. Mohd khalil Band, head of the one of rival PDP faction, took into confidence the majority of the councilors and convinced them to move a no confidence motion against the President of the council. Those who supported the no confidence motion against Bashir Ahmed Dar include Shameema Akhter, Ab Rashid Mir and Naseer Ahmed Shah (all PDP), Wali Mohd Hafiz, Shahzada Akhter and Rahat-un-Nisa (all National Conference) and Bashir Ahmed Sofi and Raja Bano (both Congress). They immediately informed Deputy Commissioner Pulwama and Director Local Bodies (Kashmir) about the decision following which Shameema Akhter of PDP was elected President and Ab Rashid Mir Vice President of the council. Meanwhile the former President has been asked to prove his majhority in the council by November 21. Of the 11 member Pulwama Municipal Council 6 belong to PDP, three owe allegiance to National Conference and two represent Congress. It has been learnt that senior National Conference leader Bashir Ahmed Nengroo and local Congress leaders played an important role in dethroning Bashir Ahmed Dar who happens to be the son of former minister and senior PDP leader Sonaullah Dar.
