J&K to engage 43000 youth as casual labourers | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 25: Jammu and Kashmir government will engage 43,000 unemployed youth as casual labourers in different departments, Labour and Employment Minister Abdul Ghani Malik told the state Assembly today. Malik was replying to a question raised by PDP leader Muzaffar Hussain Beig on the government's commitment to provide job opportunities to unemployed youth in the state. “State government has decided to engage 43,000 unemployed youth in the age group of 18-37 years on casual, seasonal and minimum need basis from time to time, for the maintenance of schemes, public assets and improved delivery of public services," he said. First priority would be to engage on need basis, persons for maintenance and operation of ongoing schemes and projects from outside the resources approved, available for such schemes or projects, he informed. "In the Power Development and Public Health Engineering Departments, preference shall be given to the trained, skilled youth (ITI or equivalent qualification) ready to work on minimum wages of Rs 110 per day," Malik added. For all other engagements, the minimum educational qualification should be middle pass, Minister said, adding "Only unemployed persons shall be engaged and nobody will be eligible for voluntary service allowance." Around 10,000 youth would be engaged in the PDD, followed by as many in PHE and Irrigation and Flood Control Departments, 6,000 each in Public Works and School Education Departments, 8,000 in Rural Development Department, 2,000 in Floriculture Department and 1,000 in forest department, the Minister added.
