Book a milestone in Dogri Literature: Tara Chand | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 25 – Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Tara Chand said Dogri is a culturally rich language and enjoys a special place in Northern region of the country, as it is spoken in major parts of the area. He said Dogra culture has its own unique history and Dogras have contributed a lot for the State as well as the Country. He was speaking at book release function of Mr. Yash Sharma’s collection of Dogri Poems ‘Hun Main Uthe Nahin Rehanda’ at University of Jammu, here today. The book was released by Ms Parvati Sehgal, grand daughter of Mr. Yash Sharma. The title has been jointly published by Dogri Sanstha and Kashmir Times publication. Minister for Medical Education, Technical Education, Youth Services and Sports Mr. R.S. Chib, Chairman Kashmir Times publication Mr. Ved Bhasin, President, Dogri Sanstha Prof. Lalit Magotra, Mrs. Seema Anil Sehgal, a renowned singer and daughter of the author and other stalwarts of Dogri literature were present on the occasion. Lauding the yeoman’s service of Dogri Sanstha in promotion of the language, Mr. Tara Chand said that the Sanstha is doing a commendable job in furthering the cause of Dogri and popularizing it in present times when other languages are taking its place. He said Dogri has been duly recognized by including it in the Eighth schedule but still a lot needs to be done so as to popularize it among the new generation. He described the present title of the author as a real treasure of Dogri language and a milestone in the field of Dogri literature. “Need of the hour is to promote the centuries old Dogri culture and language among the younger generation, as they are moving away from their mother tongue and culture in their quest for modernization”, he said.
