| Inter-Bn Sports meet of Armed Police | | IRP 15th women, IRP 8th men lead medals tally | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Mar 25: Showing their complete domination in team and individual events, Indian Reserve Police (IRP) 15th battalion is all set to claim the overall championship trophy in women’s section while IRP 8th battalion men lead the medals tally in the ongoing inter-battalion sports meet of J&K Armed and Indian Reserve Police at different venues, here.
With just a day remaining to the conclusion of this five-day mega event, almost all the team and individual events have been decided. However, the men and women’s tug of war finals shall be played tomorrow. It will be followed by the valedictory function of the meet at Gulshan Ground, here at 4 pm.
In the closing function, Director General of J&K Police, Kuldeep Khoda has consented to be the chief guest. However, the medal winners in individual games of athletics, boxing, weightlifting and swimming were given away medals by the ADGP Armed, K Rajendra, here today.
The ADGP, who is also organizing secretary of the sports meet, also supervises the rehearsal for tomorrow’s closing function.
The Detailed Results
KABADDI MEN: The IRP 8th battalion clinched men’s kabaddi title. In the final played today, IRP 8th trounced IRP 3rd by a margin of three points with final score on board reading 58-53.
FOOTBALL: The IRP 8th battalion emerged winner in football final beating IR 9th by a solitary goal. The only goal of the match was scored by Shafat-ul-Bashir. Earlier, in the semi-finals, IRP 8th defeated IRP 4th 1-0 while IRP 9th registered 1-0 win over IR 14th.
VOLLEYBALL MEN: The IRP 6th battalion registered a straight 3-0 sets win over JKAP 9th battalion to clinch men’s volleyball trophy. The final remained a close contest but JKAP failed to win even a single set. The score: 25-23, 25-19, 26-24.
BASKETBALL: In men’s basketball final, IRP 3rd battalion clinched the title outplaying IRP 8th bn 56-40. DySP Ranjeet Singh was main contributor from winner team’s total with 28 points. In the meantime, the women’s basketball trophy went to IRP 15th Bn after the side defeated IRP 19th in the final 30-20. Simi Sharma was top scorer with 16 points.
HOCKEY: Indian Reserve Police (IRP) third battalion clinched men’s hockey title after they blanked IRP 7th 4-0 in the final played at KK Hakhu Stadium today. Narinder and Ajab Singh netted two goals each. Earlier, in the semifinals, played in the morning session, IRP 7th defeated IRP 8th by a solitary goal. The only goal was scored by D P Singh. In other semi-final, IRP 3rd trounced JKAP 11th battalion 6-0 in a one-sided contest. Narinder Singh scored three goals while Ajab singh and Baljeet Singh added two and one respectively.
HANDBALL MEN: The IRP 3rd battalion lifted men’s handball trophy. In the final, played today at Police Lines grounds, IR 3rd defeated IRP 6th 15-11. Former India captain and DySP Ranjeet Singh was top scorer with eight points. Earlier, in the semi-final, IR 3rd registered a 16-05 win over JKAP 12th.
