Moratorium on registration of new stone crushers in Langate: Slathia | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 25: Minister for Industries and Commerce Surjeet Singh Salathia today said that to check over-exploitation of natural resources and to safeguard environment of the area from degradation, moratorium on further registration of new units in the area was placed by state pollution control board in September 2010 envisaging strict regulatory mechanism for operation of existing units. Salathia was replying to a Calling Attention Notice by Engineer Abdul Rashid regarding closure of Stone Crushers at Shanoo and Tulwari in Langate in district Kupwara. He informed that in response to the demand of public of Langate area adjoining the habitations along Mawar Nallah regarding installation of unauthorized stone crushers, a team of the officers comprising Assistant Commissioner, Handwara, General Manager District Industries Centre, Kupwara, District Officer Pollution Control Board Kupwara, Tehsildar Handwara, SDPO Handwara and SHO Handwara inspected stone crushers. He added that the team found five units running without required documents. These included Sunshine stone Crusher (SSC) Langate, Fair Deal Stone Crusher, Tulwari, Langate, G.K. Stone Crusher Langate, Paramount Constructions, Shanoo, Langate and Bismillah Stone Crusher, Shanoo, Tulwari. Minister said that with a view to check over exploitation of natural resources and to safeguard environment of the area from degradation, moratorium on further registration of new units has been placed.
