| JCCB gets SMS banking facility | | Zargar lauds professionalism and application of IT in co-operative banking | |
JAMMU, NOV 14 Minister for Agriculture and Co-operative Mr. Abdul Aziz Zargar today launched SMS banking facilities in Jammu Central Cooperative Bank (JCCB) on the inaugural ceremony of 53rd Cooperative Week celebrations at Jammu. Mr. Zargar appreciated the management and the staff of Cooperative Banks for introducing latest technology and applying the professionalism in providing better services to the customers. He said that in the present open market system and online banking the Cooperative banks would have to strive hard for earning the trust of the customers and providing credit facilities under farm and non-farm sectors. He said that nine branches of JCCB have been fully computerized and SMS banking facility has been dedicated the customers at Trikuta Nagar branch of the bank. He said that the customers can send their SMS No. 9419797480 and have update of their accounts and other related information. He said that JCCB has become the first bank in the country to start SMS banking facility in collaboration with a reputed IT company NELTO. He said that JCCB has also established a training centre to impart training to the management and the staff of various banks under cooperative sector and so far 12 batches comprising 215 staff members have been trained. Referring to the revival of Cooperative Banks in the state Mr. Zargar said that the deposits of the banks have touched to Rs. 1400 crore while as the credit facilities to the tune of Rs. 18 crore have been registered by the end of March last. He said that under Kissan Credit Card (KCC) scheme, Rs.56 crore loans have been provided to the farmers of the state and over 40000 KCCs have also been distributed by the various cooperative bank branches. Mr. Zargar said that under one time settlement scheme, Rs. 12 crore have been recovered from the loanees and a remission of Rs. 6 crore has been awarded to them under the scheme. Mr. Zargar said that the Cooperative Movement has been very instrumental in the socio-economic transformation of the farmer community and the labour class but the movement witnessed a setback during the turbulent situation in the state and added that during last four years the movement has been revived by strengthening existing cooperative societies, opening new societies and switching over to poultry and dairy sectors for diversification. He also stressed the need for investing in small scale industrial sector and introducing social banking under cooperative sector for ensuring social justice. Paying tributes to late Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru on his birth anniversary Mr. Zargar said that he had been the pioneer of cooperative movement and Panchayat Raj. Chairman JCCB, Mr. M. S. Tariq, said that the bank is contemplating to open its branches outside the state. He said that the bank has been extending facilities to the customers in both urban as well as rural areas adding that an increase of Rs. 586 crore deposits has been recorded by the end of March last by the JCCB. Former Minister, S. Rangil Singh, Secretary Cooperatives S.Dalip Singh, Registrar Cooperatives Mr. G.N.Qasba, Chairman J&K Housing Corporation Mr. S.S. Manhas also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the role of cooperatives. Legislators Mr. Vaid Mahajan, Smt. Shanti Devi, G.M, .JCCB Mr. S. K. Mehta, Mr. Romesh Motton and other prominent citizens and members of Cooperative Societies were present on the occasion. |
