AI member takes Geelani for a ride!

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 25: The Hurriyat chairman, Syed Ali Geelani today had a `joyride' when Amnesty International (AI) member, Bikramjeet Batra took him out. The whiff of `fresh air' must have done wonders to Geelani's psychology. But it conveyed a wrong (political) message. If a leader like Geelani needs AI support for breaking the police barrier, how can he deliver at the `larger front'?
Geelani has been under house arrest since last year's agitation. The police have not allowed him to offer congregational prayers on Fridays since last year. During the past nine months he has gone out just twice. Recently he was in New Delhi to address the India today Conclave and earlier he was in there for a `check up'. On both the occasions he was put under house arrest immediately after his arrival in Srinagar.
The elderly leader mustered massive support in 2009 by giving police a slip several times. He would escape from a `secret' exit in his house and travel in a rickshaw. However, last year he did not go for such `adventures'.
Today, reports said, Geelani readily agreed to defy police restrictions when Bikramjeet invited him for a ride in his car. The police stopped the elderly leader which evoked severe reaction from the Amnesty member. He demanded Geelani's order of arrest. However, he was asked to contact senior police officers. Even SP Budgam evaded `confrontation' with Batra.
Geelani boarded the vehicle and called on his trusted colleague, Ashraf Sehrai's family. A police vehicle, according to Geelani's spokesman, Ayaz Akber followed Geelani's car all the time.
After enjoying AI member's hospitality for an hour, Geelani came back and was immediately put under house arrest. The leader of Kashmir cannot afford such a luxury again. Bikramjeet is leaving shortly. Who in Kashmir can afford to take Geelani on board?
