| 70 Handloom cooperative societies registered in Jammu | | | JAMMU, Nov 14 Handloom Industry plays a big role in employment generation especially for people weaker sections of society. The century old industry deals with specialized fabrics like Pashmina Shawls, blankets, Loies besides cotton items. The handloom sector runs two programmes like Training Programme and Cooperative activities. Under training programme the department imparts training to the unemployed youth in various trades including Ready-made garments and handloom weaving. Each trainee is provided Rs. 100 per month as stipend. In Jammu district there are presently five mobile training Centres at Poloura,Akhnoor,Bishnah,Samba imparting training in ready-made garment, cutting and tailoring and handloom weaving. As many as 70 handloom cooperative societies have been registered during the past one-year. The department provides loan to the handloom and cutting and tailoring societies for purchase of looms and sewing machine. During the last one year the department has provided loan to the tune of Rs one lakh to these societies and Rs. 1.10 lakh to weavers for purchase/modernization of looms. The department also provides cash assistance to the weavers for construction of housing-cum-individual work-shed on cent percent subsidy. The department also provides scholarship to the school going daughters of the weavers under “Education Scheme” to encourage female education among the weaver community In Jammu district the department has disbursed Rs. 17400 as scholarship among the school going daughters besides providing LIC cover to the weavers and members of cooperatives and scholarship to the school going children from 9th to 12th class under Mahatma Gandhi Bunkar Bima Yojana. |
