A village denied electricity for not voting to present MLA in 2008 elections | No 100% electricity , only for those who voted to government | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SHAFIQ MIR Rajouri, Mar 26: In an act of vengeance, the government has denied electricity to pockets that did not vote for MLA, who now represents them in the Legislative Assembly. This is how people of Thanamandi, Rajouri accuse the government. OSources said, the department of Power Development Rajouri has denied electricity facility to some villagers in Thanamandi tehsil of border district Rajouri for not voting in favor of the local MLA in 2008 assembly elections . Sources added that two years ago, in 2008 the power development department Rajouri had rushed a 63 KV transformer to Potha hamlet of Rajdhani village in Thana Mandi tehsil , but due to financial constraints, the department failed to install the said transformer. Interestingly, in the same year , in 2008 , the residents of said hamlet comprising a particular “ Kashmiri Speaking) community voted against the present MLA Rajouri who later became power minister too . The first work done by the power minister was to stop the installation of transformer in the locality of the people who had voted against him .For the past two and half years, the residents have been moving from pillar to post to get the transformer installed but all in vain. They have been told by the officials concerned to get the instructions from the local MLA who also happens to be the minister of the said department. When contacted Executive Engineer PDD Rajouri, Maqbool Hussain said that the transformer was dropped by the department some three years ago but could not be installed due to the non availability of funds. He said, “we require only 4.5 lakh rupees for laying HT and LT lines to install this transformer”. It is interesting to mention here that said department has spent crores of rupees during past three years but it has no fund for installation of station in Potha village .Executive Engineer also admitted that all the works in constituency are done only after the clearance from local MLA . This is not a single example , but same treatment has been given to the residents of village Baglaan adjoining to Rajdhaani because they had also voted against the sitting MLA in 2008 assembly elections . An official of the department told this correspondent that the proposal was put before honorable MLA Rajouri but he rejected it twice with the directions that not to bring it again. Nazim Ahmed a resident of village potha , said that they have been told by the officials of PDD Rajouri that transformer will be installed in the village only after the directions of MLA . He said, “we are being taught lesson only because we voted against him in 2008”
