| On spot recruitment employs 179 constables in 2 years | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Mar 26: Omar Abdullah led coalition government has made 9598 appointments in the state's police department and engaged 2345 SPO's in the last two years.
In a written reply to questions of Mehbooba Mufti (PDP),Ashok Khajuria (BJP),GM Saroori (Cong) and R S Sharma (NC) in the Assembly, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said 9035 appointments were made through Police Recruitment Board (PRB).
47 appointments were made under compassionate grounds, 47 on-the-spot recruitment and 10 appointments made on court probes, he said.
Since 1998, 658 eligible candidates were selected as constables in J&K police during recruitments drive, he said. He said since January 2009 179 constables have been selected during on spot recruitment drives. According to the details tabled in the state assembly the chief minister informed the house that 1120 SPO's were engaged in Jammu region since January 2009 and 1225 in Kashmir region during the same period.
