PoK refugees attempt to cross border in Jammu | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Mar 26 : About 15 agitating refugees of Pakistan occupied- Kashmir (PoK) were arrested when they attempted to cross over to neighbouring Pakistan in Akhnoor area along India-Pakistan international border. Official sources said nearly 600 refugees of 1947, 1965 and 1971 this afternoon assembled at village Panjtoot in Pallanwala sector of Khour area and held a meeting to discuss their demands. ‘’The refugees were demanding compensation of their lost property during India-Pakistan wars, besides their one-time settlement,’’ sources said. After a meeting, the refugees including women and children tried to march towards international border through Ranjit Gate along international border but their attempt was foiled by the heavy deployment of police and the Border Security Force troops. ‘’Tight security arrangements were made and they were not allowed to proceed towards border,’’ police said adding that about 15 refugee leaders were also taken into custody under preventive measures, but released later. Earlier on March 13, agitating refugees made similar attempt to cross international border.
