No violation of PNDT act: Sham | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 26: To control female feticide in the state, there are standing instructions from the government to all district Health authorities to regularly monitor and supervise the activities of ultrasound clinics under J&K pre- conception and pre-natal sex selection/ determination(Prohibition and Regulation) Act-2002. This was stated by Minister for Health Sham Lal Sharma while replying to a question by Mohammad Yusuf Taing in Legislative Council today. He said that so far no violation has come to the notice in this behalf and functioning of all these centres is being monitored regularly. He said that annual birth rate in the state at present is 18.8 per 1000 population as per SRS Report, 2007 and sex ratio is 925 female 1000 males as per the survey conducted by Department of Economics and Statics J&K in the year 2006. Monitoring system set for to keep vigil on the performance and quality functioning of the Nursing Homes and Ultrasound Units, Minister said that both the Directors of Health Services have been designated as Supervising authority vide SRO-169 of 2010 dated 21.04.2010 for purpose of regulation and supervision of the private nursing homes and clinical establishments in the respective divisions. He said that teams constitutes at the Directorate level headed by the Deputy Directors of the respective Directorate and those headed by the respective Chief Medical Officer at the district level are responsible for monitoring and conducting surprise visits and inspection of the private Nursing homes and Clinical Establishments to detect any violation of the rules and norms. Minister said at-least 5 nursing homes, which were found violating the norms have been sealed and closed recently.
