Govt suspends 20 JMC officials over encroachments | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Mar 26: Acting tough against derelict officers, the Jammu and Kashmir government today suspended 20 officials of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) for failing to act against encroachers and violators of Building Permission Laws in Jammu. Replying to a question by Congress member B R Kundal in Legislative Council during question hour, Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand said, over the years some residential buildings have been converted and are being used as commercial establishments in violations of the Building Law. Failing to check these encroachments and conversion of residential houses, 20 personnel of JMC, including Chief Enforcement Officer S D Tak, were suspended on the charge of dereliction of duty, Chand said. He said that they have been reinstated after issuing warning to remain careful in future and ensure no more BPL violations takes place. Chand said two committees one each in Jammu and Srinagar headed by Additional Commissioners have been constituted for identifying violations, raising of illegal constructions, encroachments and violation of land use adding that those who were issued notices for violating norms have obtained stay orders from various courts.
