600 surrendered militants desirous to join mainstream: Govt

Jammu, Mar 26: The Jammu and Kashmir Government today said till date 600 applications have been received from the surrendered militants, who have expressed desire to join the mainstream under Rehabilitation Policy.
To a question listed by the BJP Legislator Jugal Kishore regarding details on number of militants desirous of joining the mainstream, who have applied for rehabilitation through their parents besides the details of assistance provided to them, the government in a written reply said, "So far 600 applications (approximately) have been received which are being scrutinised and verified." The parents or close relatives (in case there are no parents) of the prospective returnees or in exceptional circumstances the prospective returnee can approach the concerned district SP in the prescribed format to facilitate the return under the Rehabilitation Policy adopted by the State Government vide order number-1376-ISA of 2010, 23-11-2010, the Minister in-charge (Home) said.
"FDR for Rs 1.5 lakh, payment of monetary incentives for surrendered weapons and stipend for a period of three years (Rs 2,000 per month) from the date of surrender will be provided to the returnee who has surrendered before the security forces as per the earlier policy adopted by the Government against order number Home-55/H of 2004," he added.
The Minister further added the assistance would be given only to the surrendered militants who undergo a change of heart and eschew the path of violence and accept the integrity of India and Indian Constitution to lead a normal life besides contributing towards prosperity and progress of the state and the nation as well.
"In order to bring back the surrendered militants to the mainstream, they were not only benefited by the revised surrender policy but many of them were also absorbed and recruited in Central Para-Military forces and Territorial Battalions of Army," he said.
