| Seven jawans buried under landslide, 3 feared dead | | | Kupwara, Nov. 14 At least three army jawans among seven were feared dead after they were buried under a landslide near J P Post at Macchil sector in Kupwara district of North Kashmir. Sources said that a group of army jawans who were moving around after shifting their duties were missing from their Posts, Sources said adding that the mater was immediately brought into the notice of higher authorities, a search operation was started to trace the army men. Three out of seven are feared dead while other four have been rescued by the forces. Seven army jawans, who were crossing from JP Post to other side of the hill, came under an avalanche and were buried live, a spokesman informed. On receiving information, he said a search operation was launched and a special team has been dispatched to trace the soldiers. He said adding four of them were rescued, while three are still missing. Sources further said the jawans were missing since last night and feared to be trapped under a massive landslide in Macchil sector. “The rescue operation was on and we hope that the other three jawans would be traced by tomorrow”, the spokesman said. It was reliably learnt that the Jawans were missing since last forty eight hours from the JP Picket of Army which is deployed in Macchil sector. |
