Court frames corruption charges against tehsildar, others | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 26: Special judge anti-corruption, Jammu, A K Koul today framed corruption charges against a former tehsildar recovery, Jammu, and his close relatives in a case of amassing huge assets disproportionate to their known sources of income. The charges were framed Janak Singh -- tehsildar recovery -- and his relatives -- Gandharab Singh and Raghubir Singh -- under section 5(1) (e) read with 5(2) Of prevention of corruption Act, section 109 read with section 120-B of RPC, sections 12 and 14 public men and public servant declaration of assets Act and section 3 of benami transactions Act. A probe conducted into the allegations of raising assets disproportionate to his known sources of income revealed that Janak Singh, then posted as tehsildar recovery, Jammu, who joined revenue department as a patwari in 1966, had indulged in corrupt practices during his service career and acquired huge assets in his name and in the name of his close relatives. It was found that the accused constructed a double storey house on more than two kanals of land at Shastri Nagar and set up a petrol pump -- Shankar Filling Station -- at Greater Kilash in the name of his family members. He was also found to have resorted to acquisition of these and other moveable and immovable properties, including land in his name and in the name of his close relatives in order to conceal their illicit origin. The assets were valued at Rs 77, 07,919. He was also found to have purchased and sold land without obtaining any government permission and accepted gifts without any information to the government.
