Protect forest wealth, says Altaf | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Mar 27- Minister of Forests, Environment, Ecology and Remote Sensing, Mian Altaf Ahmad today said that protection of forest wealth is the prime duty of every individual, as the forests are important for maintaining ecological balance and safe and secure environment. The Minister was addressing awareness–cum-interactive meet, organized by J&K Forest Protection Force here today. The Minister said that Government has taken several initiatives to curb the menace of deforestation and timber smuggling. He said 1,30,726 plants were planted during aforestation drive by the Forest Department in nook and corner of the State recently. Responding to various demands of FPF, Altaf said the Government is quite aware of the problems being faced by FPF personnel and several steps are underway to redress their grievances as soon as possible. Appreciating Forest Protection Committees for organizing one day awareness –cum-interactive meet, the Minister said that such programmes have long lasting impact on the participants and hoped that it will benefit the masses with enough knowledge about forest protection and its significance. Commissioner Secretary, Forest Department, Shantmanu, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests R. D Tiwari, PCCF Wild Life Preetam Chand, Chairman PCB Lal Chand, Director Forest Protection Force Vinod Ranjan, SSP Kathua and Joint Director FPF Jammu M. J. Sharma were present . A large number of Forest Protection Committee members from Kishtwar, Doda, Ramban, Rajouri, Poonch, Bani and Basholi participated in the programme. Deputy Director, FPF, Parshotam Lal conducted the programme .
