Sham asks functionaries to work with social commitment | One-day convention of PHE employees held at Akhnoor | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, MAR 27 – Asserting that ground level functionaries of PHE department are vital organs for managing various Water Supply Schemes (WSS), the Minister for Health, Horticulture & Floriculture, Sham Lal Sharma today said that the Government was committed to safeguard the service interests of this important work force. Addressing a one-day convention of PHE employees at Akhnoor, the Minister said that the Government has conceded the long pending demand of the PHE ground level workers by enhancing their daily rate remuneration from Rs 500 to Rs. 3300 which would be applicable from April this year. Stressing for maintaining accountability in their functioning, the Minster asked the workers to discharge their duties with more dedication and social commitment. He asked them to ensure timely supply of water to the people and protect the public assets, adding that there are reports that various equipments get damaged due to the negligence of workers which cause disruption in the supply especially during the summer months. He asked them to be more vigilant during the summer when demand of drinking water increases manifold. Sham asked the Executive Engineer, PHE division, Akhnoor to rationalize the staff as per the actual requirements on various WSSs. He asked him to make special arrangements to regulate smooth water supply, especially in the kandi belt during the summer months. He stressed for maintaining close coordination with various sections of the employees and officers for achieving better results. The convention was also addressed by the union leaders including, Shiv Kumar Sharma. They conveyed their gratitude to the Minister for his endeavour in securing enhancement in their wages. SDM, Akhnoor Ashok Sharma, Executive Engineer, PHE division Akhnoor, S.N.Sethi and thousands of PHE workers of Akhnoor division were present on the occasion. Earlier, the Minister also participated in a function organized by the Arya Samaj at village Batehra to mark the Martyr Day of famous Social Reformer, Veer Ram Chander. Shaheed Veer Ram Chander Samarak Batehra also organized free langer and Bhajan Keertan programme. Students of Veer Ram Chander Memorial School, Batehra also presented a colourful bonanza of cultural programme that enthralled the audience. Health department and ASCOMS also organized free medical camps on the occasion.
