| Six DMU coaches arrive in Jammu | | | JAMMU, NOV 14 Six of the total eight Diesel Mobile Unit (DMU) coaches that would ply from Jammu Tawi to Katra, have arrived here today, Northern Railways said. "Six DMU coaches have arrived from the Ferozpur sub-division today at the Jammu Railway Station. Two more coaches would arrive in the next two days," Northern Railway officials said. The red coloured coaches with chaircar seating on the lines of the Shatabadi Express, have bigger windows than normal trains and a public address system like the one found in the Delhi Metro, they said. Built at the Integral Coach Factory, Chennai, the DMU has a aerodynamically designed engine, the most comfortable for travelling in the valley, they said. "We are taking eight more coaches to the Kashmir valley starting from next week," Northern Railways Divisional Technical Engineer Shiv Ram said. Ram, who has left for Kashmir valley along with a technical team to participate in the trial run of the coaches, said, "The DMU coaches would be sent one by one in a span of a month." The coaches would be put on the 36-wheeled platform pulled by a 460 hp special Volvo engine and would be driven down he Jammu-Srinagar highway, he said. They would be fitted with iron wheels for a normal run once they reached the Badgam Railway Yard, he said. |
