| Lecture discusses problems being faced by folk artists | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Mar 27: In the ongoing Folk Theatre Workshop on 'Haran' the popular Dogri Folk Form, Eminent Theaterist and Director Dr Sudhir Mahajan and Sham Lal Raina renowned personality of "Folk Theatre delivered lectures to the artists at Studio Rang Lok . Bakshi Nagar, Jammu.
This Folk Theatre Workshop has been organised by Natraj Natya kunj, Jammu (Regd.) and sponsored by Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi.
In the first phase Dr. Sudhir Mahajan discussed the problem being faced by folk artists who are actually performing these dances in rural and hilly area of Jammu Region. Dr Jasmeet Kour delivered lectures on the importance of folk form and also on preservation of Folk Theatre. She shared her views with young artists to face today’s challenges and problems to make our own way to flourish our culture.
During this workshop guidance regarding Dogri Folk Theatre on 'Haran' was given by renowned persoaality Sham Raina. He gave the introduction of traditional Folk Dances of Jammu Region and displayed 'Haran' which they performed particularly on the occasion of Lohri in the month of January. He also discussed about other Folk Dance F onns like Phummanian, Chajja, Dandaras and Guggail which are directly connected with the 'Haran' Beside other factors he also suggested that contemporary problems of our day to day life should be introduced in the Folk Theatre. Raina also discussed that artist should wear attractive and colourful traditional folk dresses so that proper justice should be given to our Folk Forms. .
The main motive of this Folk Theatre Workshop is to make aware of young generation about rich Dogra Cultural Heritage and they must adopt it.
