Natrang stages ‘Box and Cox’ | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Mar 27: The World Theatre Day celebrations started here today by Natrang with a big bang by the staging of World classic comedy ‘Box and Cox’ in English under the direction of Balwant Thakur the play has been written by a nineteenth century English playwright John Maddison Morton. Natrang is organizing a five day theatre event ‘Natrang Theatre festival-2011’ to mark the occasion. The other plays being featured in this festival include ‘Game of Chess’ directed by Neeraj Kant, ‘Intzaar’ in Urdu directed by Sumeet Sharma, ‘Suno Eh Kahani directed by Balwant Thakur, ‘Heer Ka Dukhant’ directed by Neeraj Kant and ‘Gatte Eh Mannu’ directed by Balwant Thakur Box and Cox" is a classic. It is one of the famous works of John Maddison Mortons. In this story there are three main characters namely John Box who is a printer by profession, James Cox a hatter and Mrs.Bouncer a lodging house keeper. Mrs.Bouncer has rented the same lodging to Mr.Cox who worked during the day and returns to the apartment at night and Mr.Box who works during the night and comes to the apartment in morning. Through this arrangement Mrs.Bouncer is earning double rent for the same accommodation. Mr.Box and Mr.Cox meet each other in the morning when Mr.Cox is leaving and Mr.Box is returning. Each has an impression that the other lives in the attic as projected by Mrs.Bouncer. Both become annoyed when they find their things such as candles, matches, sugar etc disappearing gradually. Mr.Cox is given a holiday unexpectedly by his employer on a day, he returns and is confronted by Mr.Box, which is presented in the story in through comic situations. They both claim to be lawful owners of the apartment. Later Mrs.Bouncer surprises and shocks them by telling the truth that the apartment belongs to both. Amarpreet Kandhari as Mrs Bouncer was very impressive and ably maintained a typical character throughout. She was supported by two young actors of Natrang viz Vikram Sharma and Balwinder Singh with their vibrant acting energy. The lights were designed and executed by Mohit Sharma and the music was done by Aatish Gupta. Neeraj Kant coordinated the show. The presentations were done by Sumeet Sharma.
