Conference on Open and Distance learning ends at MANUU | | | Early Times Report Hyderabad, Mar 28: A 3-day National Conference on Open & Distance Learning concluded today at Maulana Azad National Urdu University with a resolve to conduct a workshop as follow up to the conference and bring positive changes in this mode of Education which is gain popularity day by day. Directorate of Distance Education (MANUU) & Distance Education Council (Delhi) jointly organized the conference to discuss the role of India language Universities with regard to “Access & Equity through ODL in Higher Education”. Prof. Parvin Sinclair, Pro Vice-Chancellor, IGNOU, Speaking as the Chief Guest, in the concluding session, said that innovation push & viability are the need of the hour. Country is currently passing through the 5th generation of ODL. This mode consists of about 15% the higher education. Advising the ODL Universities to not to focus just on the age group of 18 – 40, she cited the example of a 89 year old British lady who was recently awarded a degree through ODL. Prof. Khatija Begum in her presidential remarks described ODL as most visible AND suitable method for minorities. This conference will go long way in bringing desirable changes in the system keeping in view the needs of our target students, she hoped. Prof. K.R. Iqbal Ahmed, Director DDE announced the publication of all the papers in the form of a Journal & book. A national workshop will be conducted as follow up to the conference. Dr. Mushtaq Patel, presented the report on the 3-day deliberations, Dr. Faheem Akhtar proposed vote of thanks and Aftab Alam Baig conducted the proceedings.
