National Conference on healthcare ends | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu , Mar 28: A national conference on Evidence Based Health Care organized by the department of Hospital administration, Sheri-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, Srinagar at the SKICC concluded here today. The inaugural function was chaired by Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy Dr Farooq Abdullah . Dr Abdullah in his address touched upon various impediments to efficient hospital functioning. He stressed that all parties involved had to take a share of the blame which ranged from the ill informed and sub-optimally etiquetted public to the ever demanding politicians and evading healthcare personnel. Prof. Abdul Hamid Zargar, Director, SKIMS highlighted the intense need for evidence based health care in order to provide guideline based therapy to the ailing. Dr. MA Darzi , Dean SKIMSand Dr. Amin Tabish, MS SKIMS, highlighted the requirements of heath care in the current scenario. The proceedings started with a keynote address by Prof AK Nagpal, Ex-director, SKIMS and Convenor, Taskforce J&K Health Services. In the scientific session on ‘effective communication’ the role of media in health care delivery was highlighted by Syed Zeeshan Fazili, Deputy Director, Doordarshan Srinagar whereas Justice (Retired)B A Kirmani exhaustively discussed the role of Right to Information vis a vis medical services and its implications. One of the highlights of the conference was a session on ‘Telemedicine in Healthcare” that was sponsored by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). . The deliberations were followed by a valedictory function where Asghar Samoon, Divisional Commissioner was the chief guest. Dr. Faroque Jan, Associate Professor, Hospital Administration, SKIMS presented the vote of thanks.
