BJP legislator stages walkout on water shortage | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Mar 28 : Bharatiya Janata Party legislator today staged a walk-out during the ongoing budget session of Legislative Assembly over alleged water shortage in Katra town of Reasi district.
Raising the issue during Zero Hour, BJP Legislator from Reasi, Baldev Raj Sharma alleged that pilgrims from across the country visiting the Katra town for Vaishno Devi Shrine were facing acute water shortage. "Every year 80-90 lakh pilgrims visit Katra and instead of providing better facilities, the government has even failed to make arrangements to meet the water crisis," the legislator alleged. He, however, added that the issue was also raised in 2009 Assembly session and the state government assured early redressal following Central Government’s consideration into the matter but till date, nothing concrete has been done. "Katra town requires 20 lakh gallons of water per day to cater the pilgrims but it is getting only 3 lakh gallons and the devotees have to purchase water bottles," the MLA said. Minister for Public and Health Engineering (PHE) Taj Mohi-ud-Din in his reply said, "efforts are being made to arrange funds to meet the water shortage." Taj added that water resources have been tapped at village Tikri near Katra and they would be utilised to provide better water facilities in Katra town. However, not satisfied with the government’s reply, the BJP legislator staged a walk-out of the House amidst pandemonium
